The Port of Los Angeles closed its 12-month fiscal year by setting a new annual record for most container throughput for a Western Hemisphere port by handling 9,205,755 TEUs during the fiscal year that ended June 30, a rise of 9.7 percent from the 8.39 million TEUs that came through the port during FY 2016.Additionally, Port of LA volumes rose 8.1 percent month-over-month in June, marking the second busiest June in the Southern California port’s 110-year history.With six months of data still to come for 2017, the Port of LA has also indicated that it’s on track to exceed the previous calendar year’s record volumes of 8.8 million TEUs.
Los Angeles Becomes The First Port In The Western Hemisphere To Hit 9 Million TEUJune 26th, 2017On Friday the Port of Los Angeles announced that it is the first port in the western hemisphere to handle 9 million TEU in a 12-month period that will conclude on June 30 with the close of the port’s fiscal year.The 9 millionth container was discharged from an Evergreen Line vessel, says Executive Director Gene Seroka.Los Angeles was also the first port in the western hemisphere to handle 8 million TEU in 2006.
