Santos, Brazil – 2016 Port Fire
Posted on Jan 16
A chemical explosion in a warehouse near the Port of Santos in Brazil has led to the evacuation of port workers and nearby residents.Thursday evening local time acid and disinfectants stored in containers in the warehouse apparently came in contact with rainwater, which caused a chemical reaction causing the explosion. The Mayor’s Office in Santos reports that 66 people were taken to hospitals with breathing difficulties, and that residents have been instructed to stay inside and avoid the rain that could contain chemicals. The port and the remaining terminals have in the meantime returned to normal operations. We have not yet heard if the situation will create any delays for shipments in the port and will advise any updates as soon as available.
