Hurricane Ida – Gulf Coast / Port Closures

The Port of New Orleans has not yet advised further operational updates after Hurricane Ida hit the New Orleans area, but based on the reports that all of New Orleans is out of power further port closures can be expected during the week.

The Port of Mobile, AL operates normally.

The Port of New Orleans has issued the following Storm Update today at 11:45 a.m.:

Port NOLA and its operators have begun storm preparations for Tropical Storm Ida, which is expected to become a hurricane later today and forecasted to make landfall as a strong Category 3 along the Gulf Coast on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Terminal Operations
New Orleans Terminal and Ports America for containerized operations will be CLOSED Monday, August 30, 2021.
Empire, Coastal Cargo, Gulf Stream Marine and Ports America for breakbulk operations will be CLOSED Monday, August 30, 2021.

Vessel Operations
The US Coast Guard has set Port Condition to: X-RAY, expected to updated to Yankee later today.
BAR pilots are standing by and monitoring, the last vessel outbound will be at Pilottown by noon Saturday, August 28, 2021 and no inbounds schedule after that time.

Inner Harbor Navigation Canal
The Flood Protection Authority will be closing the gates starting Saturday August 28, 2021 and will likely be CLOSED through Monday August 30, 2021, More info can be found here: http://www.floodauthority.org/closures/ for flood gate status

Rail Operations
Due to flood gate closures, the New Orleans Rail Gateway will be CLOSING Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm, and operations will remain CLOSED Monday August 30, 2021 with floodgate closures.

Bridge Status
Port-owned bridges remain open to vehicular traffic. For more details, visit our Bridge Status page.

The Port of Mobile, AL has not issued any operational notices yet and is currently operating on normal schedule.
