U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports a 2,133-pound cocaine shipment was found late October during a non-intrusive inspection of a Europe-bound container loaded with scrap aluminum and copper that originated in South America.

21 duffel bags containing a combined 818 bricks of cocaine were removed from the container, representing a street value of $31 million by CBP estimates.

The name of the container vessel has not been released yet.

Per CBP this seizure is the fifth-largest narcotics seizure made at a U.S. seaport in the past five months.

In May CBP seized 1,280 pounds of cocaine with an estimated of about $19 million, and in June a record 39,525 pounds of cocaine with a street value of about $1.3 billion was discovered in Philadelphia.
