Posted on Apr 23
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (CP) advises that an agreement has been reached with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference-Train & Engine (TCRC) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) that avoids the potential work stoppage that otherwise would have started on Saturday. The agreement apparently was reached after federal mediators recommended ratification of CP’s final offer to the unions.CP posts on its website that it “will immediately begin to execute a safe and structured start-up of its train operations in Canada. As a result of today’s announcement, there will be no disruption to the commuter rail companies operating on CP’s network and CP will be able to continue to provide safe and efficient freight service for our customers.”
Strike Potential in Canadian PortsApril 18, 2018The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference -Train & Engine (TCRC) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), have issued a 72-hour strike notice to the Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (CP) railroad, advising of their plans to strike at 12:01 a.m. eastern time on April 21, 2018. Negotiations in the past 24 hours have resulted in some progress, but uncertainty about the outcome still remains. Discussions are expected to continue through the night and into the morning.A strike could disrupt port operations in Canada significantly and cause cargo delays across the nation and in US destinations served through Canada. We will monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
