Market Update: US West Coast Rail Network Disruptions Impacting Inland Movements

We would like to provide an update regarding ongoing rail network disruptions affecting cargo moving from the U.S. West Coast to inland destinations.
BNSF has reported service interruptions on its primary rail corridors through New Mexico due to washouts that occurred over the weekend. As a result, rail traffic between Southern California and key inland markets, including Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Kansas City, and Memphis, has been significantly impacted. One of the affected main lines is expected to return to service later today, while restoration timing for the second line remains uncertain.
Because rail traffic has been unable to move normally since Saturday, shortages of railcars and locomotives have developed in Southern California. This is expected to impact the volume of containers that can be loaded from marine terminals and the Hobart facility during the week.
Even after service resumes, we anticipate continued congestion as rail providers work through the backlog of freight. Customers should expect potential increases in rail dwell times, transit delays, and reduced network fluidity during the recovery period.
Our team is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. If you have specific shipments that may be affected, please contact your dedicated account team for further assistance.
