On Friday, January 17, President Trump said, in a social media post, he would impose 10% tariffs on a list of countries starting February 1, slated to increase to 25% on June 1.

The countries mentioned include Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Finland. The tariffs are associated to the President’s desire to acquire Greenland through purchase from Denmark, stating “The United States has been trying to do this transaction for over 150 years.”

No official Federal Register Notice, Executive Order or Proclamation, or CSMS message has been published as of this writing regarding the threatened tariffs. It is uncertain how the tariffs would be implemented, and under what statute they would be enforced.
