IEEPA: India’s 25% Additional Tariff Starts Aug 27

In an Executive Order issued from the White House this morning imports from India are set to face an additional 25% tariff come August 27th. This is a result of India continuing to import Russian oil while the White House continues to admonish Russia’s war with Ukraine.
The 25% tariff of this IEEPA Executive Order will be in addition to the 25% IEEPA Reciprocal tariff Indian imports face starting August 7th.
This additional tariff does have an in-transit exemption that requires the below two criteria to be true for the 25% to be waived:
- Cargo is loaded to the Mother Vessel before August 27th, and
- Cargo is entered for consumption before September 17th.
Additionally, goods subject to Sec 232 will not be subject to this additional 25% tariff, as well as goods from IEEPA’s Executive Order 14257 Annex II list and articles of 50 U.S.C. 1702(b).
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
