Auto Parts Inclusion Requests for 232 Tariffs to Start July 1

Starting on July 1 the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration (ITA) will begin accepting requests to include new auto parts under Sec 232 tariffs (25%) for imports. This came from a ITA news release on June 24.
The inclusion request window is 14 days, and is one of four that will be open per year in January, April, July, and October. Commerce will have 60 days to consider each request, and will consider if the product is an auto part and if increased imports threaten national security as outlined in the Sec 232 auto tariff objectives.
There is a 14-day public comment period following the close of the inclusion window, where trade can view a “non-confidential version of each valid request” on regulations.gov.
Commerce is to publish a notice to the Federal Register, soon, outlining the auto part inclusion process. Any new auto parts included to the Sec 232 list from this process must also be published in the Federal Register, within 14 days of a decision to add them, and the tariffs will begin the following day of the publication.
We will continue to monitor this situation and publish updates as they are made available.
