The Ports of Yantian and Hong Kong have ceased container operations at midnight today (local time) after a yellow weather alert was issued by the authorities.
In Hong Kong the No. 8 Signal, advising of gales and storms, was raised, advising residents to stay indoors whenever possible.
At least 67 vessels are currently at anchor outside Yantian, the highest number recorded since August 26.
Typhoon Kompasu is expected to hit the area with high winds and has the potential to cause more damage than Typhoon Lionrock that hit Hong Kong a few days ago causing flooding in low-lying areas.
It is not yet clear what impact the operational disruptions will have.
We will provide updates once they become available – if you have concerns about specific shipments please contact your V. Alexander Import Account Team.
