Strike Notice – Brazil (Santos)
Posted on Aug 6
Several dockworkers were arrested in Santos on Friday after they invaded a container ship in the Port of Santos, causing a two-hour delay in port operations. The 3-day strike by dockworkers in the port was scheduled to end on Saturday, however, the dockworkers on strike threatened to extend their work stoppage if no progress is made in talks with the terminal owners. Additionally it now seems as if customs officers are planning to rekindle their strike again that they suspended early July, which would create further delays in port operations. We will monitor the situation and advise any new developments as soon as they become known.

Stevedores in the Brazilian port of Santos reportedly will go on a 72-hour strike on Wednesday to pressure container terminal operators on back pay and hiring of outside terminal workers. The strike is expected to start on Wednesday at 7 am local time and end Saturday as 7 am local time.Cargo delays need to be expected, although the impact of this relatively short strike is not expected to be extremely dramatic, especially in view of the fact that the terminal operators intend to use its salaried stevedores to continue terminal operations. We will monitor the situation and will advise of any reported cargo delays.
