The CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt, a Neopanamax class vessel measuring 1,200 feet in length and 158 feet in beam with a container capacity of 14,885 TEUs, became the largest ship to ever transit the Panama Canal as part of its voyage from Asia to the U.S. East Coast, with stops in Norfolk, Savannah and Charleston.Traveling through the Panama Canal saved 29,561 tons of CO2 emissions in bypassing the Cape of Good Hope.According to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) the expanded canal contributed to the reduction of 17 million tons of CO2 in its first year of operation due to the shorter traveling distance and vessels with larger cargo carrying capacity now being able to pass through the canal.
