Delays at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port
Posted on Apr 25
The reported delays in Shanghai’s Yangshan port eased last week, resulting in a reduction of vessels waiting outside the port to berth, but the expectation remains that operations will only be back to normal in mid-May.Vessel arrival delays and waiting time for berths were reduced, and the number of vessels waiting outside the port to berth dropped from 100 to around 80.In addition to the already known issues leading to the congestion at Yangshan an additional 500 domestic barges that move containers from the recently completed Three Gorges Dam are adding to the volume in the port.Shanghai’s container volume has seen growth of over 14% to 3.4 million TEU in March and the additional volume only added to the congestion. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will advise further updates when they become available.
