Food Importers Take Note – Effective May 30, 2017 Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

Beginning May 30, 2017, customs entries will require that the “FSVP Importer” must be identified with the entry details. The FSVP Importer is the U.S. owner or consignee of an article of food that is being offered for import into the United States. The FSVP Importer may or may not be the Importer of Record (IOR).Imports of “food” are defined as:Ingredients in food and beverages (including alcoholic beverages),Food additives and color additives put in food during processing,Dietary supplements, andPackaging and other food contact substances.The FSVP Importer details need to include the importer’s contact information and DUNS number. The Dun & Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number is the only acceptable reference number to identify the FSVP Importer.If you are exempt from being an FSVP Importer, a written statement of exemption must be provided at the time of entry.Customs Brokers are not considered an FSVP Importer and cannot be named as such in the customs entry.To understand if you are subject to the FSVP guidelines, please follow this link.Further information about the date rollout can be viewed here.
