Case Study: Kraken Sports Magnum Opus

October 27, 2010   |   Case Study

Kraken Sports & Media, a British based publishing company contracted V. Alexander Co., Inc. to arrange air transportation of the SUPER BOWL OPUS, the 40 year history of “The game that stops America” and the MANCHESTER UNITED OPUS, the history of the world-famous English football club. An Opus is a unique hand-finished, limited edition publication containing at least 750 pages of stunning visuals, specially commissioned photography and over 400,000 words by the world’s leading writers in their fields. Each OPUS weighs packed almost 100 pounds and measures almost 30 inches x 30 inches x 14 inches.

The timely and secure transportation of the Kraken Opus books required not only a coordinated effort between three continents, but the utmost possible security to avoid pilferage. Created in England, printed in China and transported to the USA and Great Britain!

The V. Alexander/Newport team, our long time partner in Hong Kong, linked Asia, Europe, and North America. The direct loadings and transfers from the printing facility in Southern China were timed to the latest possible minute, to avoid long storage and waiting time at Hong Kong International Airport.

The first uplift was the Manchester United Opus. 20'000 pounds of total weight were flown to the United Kingdom, cleared through Her Majesty's Customs services and delivered on time to the distribution side in Grantham, England.

V. Alexander/Newport arranged direct flight connection from Hong Kong to Manchester, England. After all, the Manchester United Opus came home through Manchester International Airport. Fast transit time and supervised uplift was key! The V. Alexander/Newport Hong Kong team delivered!

Then there was the Super Bowl Opus. Almost 25'000 pounds in total weight and a retail value of more than USD 4'500'000.00 had to be transported in one move. Security, control and rapid transit were key goals. This load included 98 Super Bowl MVP copies, non replaceable, with the original signatures of all Super Bowl MVP'S, from Super Bowl I through Super Bowl XL.

Again the close coordination between V. Alexander/Newport and Kraken allowed the shortest possible transit time and the safest method to bring the OPUS to the USA. From the loading in Hong Kong to final destination in the USA, the entire load was secured and protected by security experts. All went as planned, fast, on time and secured all the way. During high season the firm and on time uplift and the on ground coordination in Hong Kong and the USA was key to the success! The V. Alexander/Newport team delivered.
